Did You Receive A Yellow Postcard?

Did you receive a yellow postcard or email from a company called PCI and want to know if it’s legit? Well, it is! PCI is the vendor we have contracted to help us make sure your records are current and give you a great way to support your local council by sharing your Scouting Story. Below is what you can expect and some frequently asked questions for your information.

Thank you for supporting Scouting by participating in this campaign.

Three Easy Steps to Ensure Your Council Legacy

We’re lucky. We’re lucky, because during isolating times like these we share a remarkable connection not everyone has –– the Scouting connection. Scouting is a thread of life-changing adventures enjoyed with friends and family. Those experiences helped shape the adults we are today. And no one can tell the story of Scouting better than you.

What’s more priceless than memories of your favorite camp story, or how you helped that one kid who was struggling to earn a merit badge, or that week spent at summer camp in the pouring rain, or the joy of completing your Order of the Arrow ordeal? Not much! Make your story part of the Scouting legacy by following these three simple steps.

Soon, you will receive a yellow postcard featuring our logo on the front.

When you call the toll-free number on the postcard, you will reach a trained representative who will help you update the personal information we have on file.

Once your contact information is updated, the interviewer will ask if you would like to share your favorite experience for your council’s digital archive. As an alumni of the Scouting program, you are a critical part of ensuring Scouting’s legacy for generations to come.

Sharing your story affords you the opportunity to support the council, purchase council-branded apparel, and/or purchase a commemorative book celebrating your local Scouting program—100 percent of monetary donations as well as a portion of apparel purchases goes directly to helping your council continue to bring Scouting to boys and girls in your community.

So, don’t wait. Call the toll-free number on the card and share your story as Scout, volunteer, advisor, mentor, or proud parent. Every story is important and powerful in fulfilling this exciting legacy project. Help us fill our digital vault with your priceless memories of leadership, character development, and how the promise of Scouting unfolded for you. We can’t wait to share in your stories!

Scouting Stories FAQ's

I received an email/postcard/phone call from a company asking for my personal information and to tell a Scouting story about my local council. Is this a legitimate project or is it a scam?

It’s legit! We have partnered with PCI (also known as Publishing Concepts) to produce a Scouting Stories publication for your council. PCI is a family owned business based in Dallas, TX, that has published directories for the National Eagle Scout Association, the Order of the Arrow, educational institutions, fraternities, sororities, and military organizations across the nation for almost 100 years. This project allows your local council to hear about your personal experiences and explain how your council has helped shape your lives.

Does my local council benefit from this at all?

Yes, in a few different ways:

  • Updated Information – allows us to effectively communicate with and engage members and alumni
  • Legacy – preserves the history of our council
  • Revenue – generates donations and other non-dues revenue for council programs
  • Pride – wearing apparel shows support and love for Scouting

How do I know my information will only be used for the Scouting Stories Project purposes?

PCI is committed to protecting your information. The names, addresses and information provided to PCI for the publication of the Scouting Stories Project will be held confidential by PCI, except to the extent that they are utilized in, or in the preparation of, the Scouting Stories Project and except as required by court order or law. Upon completion of the project, PCI will redact PII (Personal Identifiable information) from any and all electronic files that we have supplied or were produced by PCI in connection with the production of the Scouting Stories Project.

Will PCI be able to sell our data?

No. PCI is restricted by contract to only use our data for this project. Once the records have been updated and the project is complete, PCI does not retain our records anywhere in their systems.

I would like to verify or update my information and share a story. How may I do this?

If you have received a postcard or an email with a telephone number, you may call the number to speak with a dedicated representative for the Scouting Stories Project. The representative will verify all the information we have on file for you, make any updates where needed, then ask you to share your story about your time service in your council. Your story will be recorded and the sound clip provided to the BSA at the conclusion of the project.

If you have received an email with an embedded link, you may go to the online site to review your information and submit a story.

If you did not receive a postcard or email, you may call the your local council.

Can I choose what information prints in the publication?

When you call to update your information, you can tell the representative if you prefer any of your information be excluded. You can also communicate your preferences to PCI’s customer service help desk at 1-800-982-1590 / customerservice@publishingconcepts.com or to your Council directly.

I updated my information but need some more time to think about what experience to share.

If you have also purchased a book but do not have an email address on file, you will be sent a photo mailer to send physical photos in to be printed (note: photos will be returned if you include a self-addressed, stamped envelope).

I’d like to add / remove info from my story.

You will receive an email prior to publication with a link to review your transcribed story and make any edits.

Can anyone purchase a book?
