Scouting Alumni Newsletter – October 2025

Dear Fellow Scouting Alumni,

Recently, my schedule ended up with three straight days of alumni events: a Scouting Alumni national committee meeting, a happy hour with business school alumni in my town, and an alumni reception for my high school. Even for someone who has chosen to focus on alumni communities, that’s a lot!

But it didn’t feel like a lot—it felt joyous! At each of the school events, I only knew one person. But the bonds of shared experiences and appreciation for what those experiences taught us made us all fast friends.

This is as true of Scouting as it is of schools. There is a joy in sharing your stories with people who have been through similar experiences. And all Scouting alumni have some experiences in common: the first camping trip (did you perhaps overpack?), the campout where it didn’t stop raining (until the cars were leaving the parking lot, of course), the first campfire skit (did someone forget their lines?), the trail injury (how long did you have to hike with that blister forming?), the meal that, for whatever reason, did not turn out as intended (are cold hot dogs tasty?). The list goes on!

Each of you has so much in common with other Scouting Alumni. And, trust me, sharing your stories with others is fun!

There are so many ways to be in community with other alumni—from council alumni events to gatherings for high adventure bases or from older youth program alumni reunions to career and interest-specific meetups.

If you haven’t recently, click the Get Involved tab on the Scouting Alumni website to find the alumni groups that speak to your interests and see what they have planned. And if they have nothing coming up, consider planning something yourself—you’ll be glad you did!

Yours in Scouting,

Andrew Miller
Chair, Scouting Alumni

P.S. Beginning today, please be on the lookout for an email from the Harris Poll for the Eagle and Alumni Outcomes Survey.
