Scouting Alumni Newsletter – March 2026

Dear fellow Scouting Alum,

I bet you have a favorite Scouting adventure – if not several! I say this with confidence because every alum I speak with has at least one story about a Scouting adventure, and telling it always brings out a big grin.

Scouting adventures absolutely make life-long memories – and the more adventures a Scout has, the more memories they will create. To create great memories for each Scout, we not only have to recruit them to a unit, we have to keep them in the program year after year.

While Scouting America invites and welcomes all youth and families who wish to live by our values, it’s not enough to get them through the door – we have to retain them, as well. Instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law takes place over multiple years, so we are most successful in achieving our Mission when we retain Scouts.

This year, Scouting America is putting a particular emphasis on retention, focusing on Cub Scouts. Cub Scouting is the entry point for so many of our members, and keeping den and pack meetings safe and fun is an important way to keep Scouts engaged.

Alumni can be great difference-makers in our efforts to retain Scouts – and, with Cub Scouts, it couldn’t be easier: just volunteer at one den meeting. The activities are fun and straightforward, and your presence can help the den leader focus on delivering the best possible den meeting to the Scouts.

I bet you’ll have fun doing it, too – who knows, maybe it’ll become your newest favorite Scouting adventure!

Yours in Scouting,
