Scout Irelynn Pachulski Recognized as Scholar Athlete

by Mike Matzinger

Senior Irelynn Pachulski of Michigan’s Saranac High School was recently recognized as a Scholar Athlete, and her impact reaches far beyond the stat sheet. A true multi sport competitor, she participates in volleyball, basketball, softball, track, and even football sideline cheer, while also performing in the school band. Earlier in her high school career, she even suited up for junior varsity football.

What truly sets her apart is her leadership and service. After joining Scouting America the first year girls were welcomed, she went on to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. For her Eagle Scout service project, she identified a major need at the school. The athletic shed, used as a halftime space and storm shelter, was overcrowded with leftover supplies from the pandemic. She organized volunteers, cleaned and reorganized the space, and made it safe and usable again. Just weeks later, when a severe storm and tornado warning hit, that very space became a safe haven for her teammates.

Her work ethic extends beyond campus. For years, she has grown and sold sweet corn with her grandfather, expanding the project from a few rows to a large scale operation she now helps manage herself, including planting, weeding, and watering.

This fall, Irelynn will attend Montcalm Community College, where she will continue her volleyball career. She plans to transfer to a four year institution and pursue a path as a physical therapist assistant, inspired by her desire to help athletes recover and return stronger after injury.
