Scouting Alumni Welcome Each Other Back to the Campfire

by Mike Matzinger

On January 21, 2026, 21 Scouting alumni gathered in Flagstaff to reconnect, share stories, and welcome one another back to the campfire.

The group reflected the full spectrum of Scouting’s impact. Three Eagle Scouts from Illinois met for the first time and bonded over Midwest memories. The youngest alumna, who earned her Eagle in 2025 through the Grand Canyon Council, connected with alumni whose experiences date back more than 50 years. Several attendees were not currently registered in Scouting, adding even more perspective to the conversation.

Leaders from the alumni group shared a simple message: reconnect, build new friendships, and find meaningful ways to give back, whether through Eagle boards of review, Cub Scout Day Camp, or mentoring the next generation.

As one attendee put it, we are all part of one council, and gatherings like this help connect every corner of it.

The friendships last. The impact lasts. The campfire is always burning for those ready to return.
