Alum Paul Loomis was recently recognized as a “Pillar of the Community” by the Scouting America Twin Buttes District, part of the Grand Teton Council based in Idaho.
The award was presented during a ceremony at the American Legion Stewart Hoover Post 23. It traditionally recognizes dedicated Scouting leaders, but this year organizers chose to spotlight Loomis for his leadership beyond the program.
Loomis, who served as mayor of Blackfoot from 2014 to 2018, led efforts focused on economic development and downtown revitalization. Following his time in office, he co-founded The Candy Jar with his wife, Judy, building it into a well-known local business and gathering place.
A retired Army lieutenant colonel, Loomis remains deeply engaged in the community, often working directly in his shop and connecting with customers.
Reflecting on the recognition, Loomis shared, “I was completely surprised and honored by the award. I personally learned a lot of lessons while in Scouting.”
