Scout Jayden Woodson Turns His Challenge Into Compassion

by Mike Matzinger

Jayden Woodson is showing what servant leadership truly looks like.

Living with sickle cell anemia himself, Jayden chose to turn his personal experience into an act of compassion and support for other families facing the same challenge. As part of his Eagle Scout service project, he created comfort kits for parents whose children are receiving treatment for sickle cell disease at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU.

The kits included snacks, cozy socks, stress balls, personal hygiene items, and handwritten notes of encouragement. Simple items, but powerful reminders that no family walks through difficult moments alone.

Jayden, whose father also lives with sickle cell anemia, explained the heart behind the project best:

“When someone is going through a hard time, getting a care package shows them that other people care about them. Even something small can make a big difference and brighten someone’s day.”
