Alum Jacob Lynn Godwin Receives Order of the Palmetto

by Mike Matzinger

Congratulations to alum Jacob Lynn Godwin on receiving the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest civilian honor.

A Deputy Solicitor for the Fourth Judicial Circuit, Jacob was recognized for a lifetime of service, leadership, and dedication to the people of South Carolina. His distinguished legal career has been marked by integrity, compassion, and a commitment to ensuring justice and fairness for all.

Jacob’s leadership journey began long before his legal career. As a young man, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was selected as Lieutenant Governor at Palmetto Boys State, early indicators of the character, service, and leadership that would define his life.

Beyond the courtroom, Jacob has dedicated countless hours to community service through organizations such as the Hartsville YMCA, Cypress Adventures, and the Pee Dee Coalition. Whether mentoring young attorneys, serving on nonprofit boards, or supporting community initiatives, he has consistently placed service above recognition.

The Order of the Palmetto is awarded to individuals whose lives exemplify extraordinary achievement, selfless service, and lasting contributions to the State of South Carolina. By all accounts, Jacob embodies those ideals.

Congratulations, Jacob, on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your continued service to your community, the legal profession, and the State of South Carolina.
