Thanksgiving Reflections

A Thanksgiving message to all alumni from Andrew Miller, BSA Alumni Association Chair.

Dear Scouting Alumni,

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family from Scouting America!

Our Thanksgiving holiday means many things, including parades, turkey, football, time with family, multiple varieties of cranberry sauce, and an abundance of food. But foremost in my mind is gratitude.

I am grateful for our nation, for our founding ideals as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, for our forebears who came to this land. I am grateful for the abundance and beauty of the Earth; for family, friends, and good health; and for those who work, day in and day out, to make this country and our communities a better place.

Among the many who work to make this country and our communities a better place, you will find no shortage of Scouting Alumni. Thank you for your acts, big and small, that embody our values and make a difference in the lives of others—living into our slogan, “Do a Good Turn Daily”.

I am also grateful that more of our fellow citizens are hearing the positive news about Scouting America. Whether from news articles, Scouting for Food, or one of the countless acts of service Scouts perform in their communities, Americans are noting the positive impacts of Scouts and Scouting.

Thank you for being part of that positive impact. I am grateful that Scouting is part of your life and for what you do each day to live our values.

Yours in Scouting,
Andrew Miller
