Once A Scout, Always A Scout

In Lansing, Ill., a group of men in their 60s reunited after decades — not for a camping trip, but to give back to the leader who shaped their lives.

When 86-year-old former Scoutmaster Paul Schultz mentioned he needed new shed doors, his “boys” from Troop 247 sprang into action. They drove in from across Wisconsin, Indiana, and Illinois to paint, repair, and share laughs with the man who taught them leadership, respect, and responsibility.

“He volunteered his time for us back then, now we’re volunteering for him,” said former scout Steve Bozaki.

For Schultz, who has dedicated his life to scouting and preserving local history, the gesture meant the world: “Even now, married, grown, in their 60s, they’re still my boys.”

A beautiful reminder: the values we learn in service last a lifetime — and so do the bonds.
