Scouting Alums Stay Connected at Purdue University

by Mike Matzinger

Scouting Purdue is a student organization helping Scouting alums stay connected during college. With 80+ members, the group fosters leadership, service, and community while volunteering with the local Sagamore Council and participating in Purdue events.

“Scouting Purdue creates a pathway for college students and faculty to continue their Scouting journey into adulthood,” says Bryon Haverstick, Sagamore Council COO.

Joe Azzarello, Scouting America’s national director of alumni relations, says Scouting Purdue, and organizations at other colleges like it, falls under the category of a Scouting alumni community, which also includes council camp alumni associations, civic partner organizations and national vocational or avocational groups.

“The Scouting Purdue group,” Azzarello says, “is a perfect example of what we want to see more of.”

Beyond service, the organization offers networking, professional development, and a way to maintain lifelong Scouting friendships.
