Glenn Nordmark Honored with Silver Beaver for 86 Years of Dedication to Scouting

by Mike Matzinger

At 96 years young, Glenn Nordmark continues to embody what it truly means to live a life of service.

Glenn has been honored with the Silver Beaver Award, the highest recognition a Scouting volunteer can receive at the council level, marking an extraordinary 86 years of dedication to Scouting and his community.

Glenn earned his Eagle Scout rank back in 1944 — 81 years ago — and still proudly wears that medal today. His life has been a remarkable journey of service: from mentoring Scouts and leading in his church, to volunteering with Meals on Wheels and helping others file taxes through AARP for nearly three decades.

Even now, Glenn reminds us that Scouting is far more than merit badges or uniforms — it’s about building character, embracing the outdoors, and giving back to others. As he puts it, “Get outdoors, enjoy God’s world, and work together. Go for the Eagle.”

At a time when lifelong commitment and quiet service can feel rare, Glenn’s example shines brightly. Thank you, Glenn, for reminding us all what it looks like to live with purpose, humility, and heart.
