Troop Celebrates Centennial With a Year of Service

by Mike Matzinger

Livingston, New Jersey’s Scouts BSA Troop 12, founded in 1926, has a long tradition of youth-led service, leadership, and community involvement. As part of its centennial celebration, the troop launched Troop 12 Cares in 2025, its most ambitious service initiative to date. The inaugural project, held on December 20, 2025, partnered with Livingston Neighbors Helping Neighbors to prepare and deliver warm meals to local families in need.

With support from Ss. Nicholas, Constantine, and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Roseland, nearly 40 scouts, alumni, and parent volunteers worked together to plan, cook, and package meals in a commercial kitchen. The troop exceeded its goal, producing 63 meal trays, each serving multiple people. Troop 12 leaders plan to make Troop 12 Cares an annual initiative, continuing the troop’s legacy of service as it enters its next century of impact in the Livingston community.
