Great educators shape lives in ways that last far beyond the classroom. At the American Community School of Abu Dhabi, Ms. Cheryl Haney is a powerful example of that lasting impact. This year, she was honored with the Elbert K. Fretwell Outstanding Educator Award from Scouting America’s TAC Horizon District.
The Fretwell Award celebrates educators who go above and beyond to influence young people through strong ethical values, character development, and community engagement. Ms. Haney brings these qualities to life every day through her professionalism, compassion, and integrity. She supports students well beyond the classroom by coaching tennis, academic games, and debate, advising the yearbook team, and leading inclusion-focused efforts such as the Art Book Exchange Program. Her dedication ensures every student feels seen, supported, and valued.
Ms. Haney also serves as the Charter Organization Representative for Scouts BSA Troop 36, strengthening the partnership between ACS and Scouting and extending opportunities for leadership and service into the broader community.
Nominated by members of the ACS community and affirmed by her colleagues, this recognition is a reminder to celebrate the educators who quietly make an extraordinary difference every day. Congratulations to Ms. Haney, and thank you for the lasting impact you continue to make.
