June is National Internet Safety Month

by Mike Matzinger

National Internet Safety Month is observed each June to raise awareness about online risks and promote responsible digital citizenship among youth, parents, and communities.

Scouting America is proud to support this important effort through its partnership with Know2Protect, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s national public awareness campaign focused on preventing and combating online child exploitation and abuse.

Through this partnership, Scouts and their families have access to valuable online safety education, practical prevention strategies, and resources for reporting suspected abuse.

Helping young people protect their privacy online can begin with a few simple conversations.

During National Internet Safety Month, parents and trusted adults can encourage kids and teens to strengthen their digital boundaries by:

• Turning off location sharing services
• Setting social media and gaming accounts to private
• Removing strangers from friends lists

These small actions can make a meaningful difference in protecting personal information and giving young people greater control over who can view their content and contact them online.
