From Scout to Cubmaster, Matt Flory’s journey is a reminder that Scouting’s impact often extends far beyond childhood.
As a youth, Matt participated in Cub Scouts and Scouts BSA, earning the rank of Life Scout before stepping away during high school. While he has often reflected on not completing his Eagle Scout journey, Scouting found its way back into his life years later when his oldest child joined a local Cub Scout pack.
What began as a hesitant “yes” to serving as a Den Leader soon led to an invitation to become Cubmaster. Over the next three and a half years, Matt helped strengthen the pack by creating engaging programs, improving operations, and bringing “Fun with a Purpose” to life for countless Scouts and their families.
Matt believes that while not every Scout earns the rank of Eagle Scout, every Scout gains something valuable. They experience positive role models, learn to work as a team, serve their communities, and discover what they’re capable of accomplishing.
Today, Matt continues to invest in Scouting through financial support, volunteer service, and a long-term commitment to expanding opportunities for youth. Looking ahead, he hopes to dedicate even more of his time to helping bring Scouting to communities that need it most.
In a world increasingly shaped by technology, screen time, and social isolation, Matt believes the Scouting program remains as relevant as ever by giving young people opportunities to lead, solve problems, build friendships, and grow through real-world experiences.
His story is a testament to the lifelong impact of saying “yes” to Scouting, whether as a youth member, a volunteer leader, or an advocate for the next generation.
