Labeled an “enemy alien” during WWII because of his Japanese heritage, Hiroshi “Hershey” Miyamura — a Scouting alum from New Mexico — wasn’t initially allowed to serve.
But when he could serve, he fought with valor, endured years as a POW, and received the Medal of Honor.
When he returned, he wept at the sight of the American flag — a symbol of the country he never gave up on.
