Alum Jim Whorton Named Grand Marshal of 2025 Park Cities Fourth of July Parade

Author: Mike Matzinger

After nearly 50 years of riding his iconic red high-wheel bicycle in the Park Cities Fourth of July Parade, longtime community leader and veteran Jim Whorton will serve as the 2025 parade grand marshal.

A former Marine and lifelong patriot, Whorton has become a local legend for his dedication to tradition, youth, and service. In addition to his parade legacy, he’s made a lasting impact through decades of volunteer work with Scouting America, including six national jamborees and high-adventure camps with Troop 70.

His commitment also extends to the Dallas Archaeological Society, the State Fair of Texas, and global travel across 70 countries.

The towns of Highland Park and University Park honored Whorton for his “profound and lasting contributions to the community” — a fitting tribute to someone who has spent a lifetime inspiring others to serve, smile, and keep pedaling forward.
