It’s always inspiring to see how early leadership experiences can shape future success—on and off the field.
Relief pitcher Scott Barlow of the Cincinnati Reds began his journey not just in baseball, but in Scouting. As a youth, he was a member of BSA Troop 36 in Waterford and served as a Counselor-in-Training at J.N. Webster Camp. Those formative years helped develop the resilience, focus, and leadership he brings to the mound today.
In the 2025 MLB season, Scott signed a one-year, $2.5 million contract with the Reds. He’s already making a strong impact, holding opposing hitters to a .161 batting average—a sign of his continued growth and consistency.
A quick look at his career highlights:
- Career win–loss record of 26–21 with a 3.55 ERA
- Converted 13 of 16 save opportunities with the Kansas City Royals in 2023
- Posted a 4.25 ERA during his 2024 season with the Cleveland Guardians
He recently returned to Boston and signed a few 2025 J.N. Webster Camp patches for display—a meaningful gesture connecting his past with his present.
Scott’s story is a powerful example of how early experiences in programs like Scouting can build the foundation for excellence in any field.
