Rex Tillerson Recipient of the Western Visionary Award

by Mike Matzinger

The National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum has named Rex Tillerson as the recipient of the Western Visionary Award. He will be honored at the 65th annual Western Heritage Awards on April 11, 2026, at the museum in Oklahoma City.

The Western Visionary Award is a rare distinction recognizing individuals whose leadership and influence have made a national impact on preserving Western heritage and ideals.

Tillerson’s connection to Scouting America spans decades. As a youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and later received the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. As an adult volunteer, he was recognized with the Silver Beaver and Silver Buffalo awards. He also served on Scouting America’s executive committee and as national president from 2010 to 2012.

His lifelong commitment to leadership, service, and values-based development continues to reflect the principles shared by both the Western heritage community and Scouting alumni nationwide.
